March 17, (THEWILL) — Amid cheers and a colourful ceremony, Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Tuesday took the oath of office for a second term as Governor of Anambra State, pledging to sustain and deepen his administration’s development agenda.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at Ekwueme Square, began with the inauguration of the deputy governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, who was administered the oath of office by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.

Soludo was subsequently sworn in at exactly 11:55 a.m., officially commencing his second term in office.

The governor arrived at the venue alongside Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President Goodluck Jonathan, drawing loud cheers from a large crowd of supporters.

Dressed in a vibrant orange attire with a matching red cap, Soludo received a rousing welcome from thousands of well-wishers who thronged the venue.

The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including Emeka Anyaoku; the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe; Nigeria’s first female governor, Virginia Etiaba; and former Governor Chris Ngige.

Also in attendance was the Ooni of Ife, Enitan Ogunwusi, alongside deputy governors from Delta, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, and Ebonyi states, as well as Mrs. Ifeoma Ekwueme, wife of Nigeria’s first elected Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.

Leaders and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), lawmakers, traditional and religious leaders, among other dignitaries, were also present at the ceremony.

Soludo’s re-election followed a resounding victory at the governorship poll held on November 8, 2025, where he polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes. Candidates of other parties trailed behind in the election, which saw the governor secure a commanding lead across the state.

The landslide win, including victories in all 21 local government areas, underscored the electorate’s endorsement of his first-term performance and sets the tone for heightened expectations as he embarks on another four-year tenure.
