January 08, (THEWILL) – The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed against the election of Governor Hycinth Alia of Benue State.
This followed the withdrawal of the appeal filed by Titus Uba, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 gubernatorial election in Benue State, against the victory of Alia.
A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Okoro, dismissed the appeal after admitting the application for withdrawal filed through Sebastian Hon, counsel to the appellant
Uba had challenged the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which affirmed the victory of Governor Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18 gubernatorial election in Benue State.
Meanwhile, the apex court has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Chukwuma Odii of the PDP, challenging the victory of Governor Francis Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress in the March 18th gubernatorial election in Ebonyi State.
A five-member panel of the court, led by Justice John Okoro, reserved the Judgement after parties adopted their briefs of argument on Monday.
The Court of Appeal, Lagos, had earlier affirmed the election of Francis Nwifuru as the duly elected Governor of Ebonyi State.
