November 16, (THEWILL) – A suspected cult group on Friday night shot and killed a physically challenged man, Hon. Mutual Akinbami, popularly known as Igor, in the Abeokuta metropolis of Ogun State.
The tragic incident occurred at about 6:13 p.m. between Brewery Bus Stop and Olomore Junction.
Akinbami, a former councillor in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, was said to be riding a motorcycle with his daughter when the assailants, reportedly driving a tinted Toyota Hilux, opened fire.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers had trailed Akinbami from his residence at Olomore Federal Housing Estate before striking.
The assailants reportedly made a detour at the Brewery area after completing their mission.
Akinbami’s death sparked intense discussions in the area, with many residents alleging his affiliation with the Eiye secret cult group during his lifetime.
Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and other eyewitnesses expressed shock over the brazen nature of the attack.
As of press time, authorities had yet to confirm the identities of the assailants or establish a motive for the killing.
