
February 11, (THEWILL) — A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion occurred early Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa, prompting a swift security response from the Bayelsa State Police Command.
A statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed that no lives were lost and no property was damaged during the incident.
Mohammed stated that the incident was reported at approximately 6:00 a.m., after which the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, immediately led operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Special Drone Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the police operatives swiftly contained the explosion and cordoned off the affected area to prevent any further risk to the public. A thorough sweep of the complex led to the discovery of one unexploded IED, which was successfully rendered safe by the EOD unit,” the statement added.
A suspect identified as Pentecost Elijah, a 60-year-old man from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.
He is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police assured residents that the situation has been fully brought under control and that normal activities have since resumed at the State Secretariat Complex.
