September 4, (THEWILL) – The suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, at the University of Calabar, Prof Cyril Osim Ndifon, has sued the Institution’s Vice Chancellor.
Professor Ndifon accused the office of the Vice Chancellor and three others of character defamation and allegedly sponsoring a protest against him, just to ease him out of office.
In the suit marked NICN/CA/42/2023, the law professor expressed displeasure over what he described as dragging his image in the mud even when he did nothing wrong.
The defendants comprise the office of the Vice Chancellor, Office of the Registrar and the Department of Philosophy, and are to, within eight days after service of the summon on them, cause an appearance to be entered in an originating summons issued from National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Calabar Judicial Division, Holden at Calabar.
In the suit, Professor Ndifon accused the Vice Chancellor of colluding with the Law Students Association of Nigeria, UNICAL Chapter President, Mr Obi Benedict Otu, with one of the Vice Chancellor’s nieces, Destiny Omokiti, of stage-managing a protest against him so as to pull him down.
However, in his response, the Unical Public Relations Officer, Mr Effiong Eyo, stated that the University only set up a panel to investigate allegations against the embattled Dean of Law Faculty.
He added that no one has found him guilty yet, but maintained that they will be in court for the hearing.
