March 12, (THEWILL) — Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on Thursday, said the lingering internal crisis and leadership disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prompted his decision to defect to the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, disclosed this in a letter formally addressed to his ward chairman in Sokoto State.
He said the ongoing legal disputes and leadership tussles within the PDP had made it difficult for him to remain in the party.
According to him, persistent divisions within the party have weakened the unity and direction that once defined it.
“The PDP’s internal crisis has made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party”, he said.
Tambuwal added that the development necessitated his decision to formally withdraw from the party.
The former governor further disclosed that he had officially joined the ADC alongside his political associates and supporters.
He explained that his decision to align with the ADC was driven by the belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to national development.
Tambuwal, however, expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to serve the country in various capacities.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as governor of Sokoto State”, he said.
