January 02, (THEWILL) — The Taraba State Government has designated Karim Lamido Local Government Area as a special area of security concern in a bid to protect lives, property, and livelihoods in the area.
The move, approved by Governor Kefas, follows careful security assessments and consultations with relevant authorities according to a statement issued by Yusuf Sanda, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Taraba State.
The Governor as Chief Security Officer of the state, described the designation as preventive and temporary, to stabilise the area while upholding law and order.
Governor Kefas stressed that the measure does not amount to a state of emergency, nor does it suspend civil authority or target any community, religion, or ethnic group. Farming, trading, worship, and local administration will continue as usual.
Under the new designation, security agencies will conduct intelligence-led patrols, enhance coordination, and regulate activities in identified flashpoint zones
“The Special Security Concern designation allows for enhanced coordination among security agencies, intelligence-led patrols and surveillance and awful regulation of activities in identified flashpoint”, the statement noted.
Law-abiding residents have been reassured that they have nothing to fear during the period.
The Governor also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth leaders, and community stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to ensure peace, stability, and mutual trust.
