January 02, (THEWILL) — Taraba Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has unveiled the state’s development priorities for 2026, with a strong focus on food security, modern livestock practices, and inclusive community development.
In his New Year address to citizens on Wednesday, Governor Kefas outlined plans to strengthen agriculture, ensure sustainable food production, and promote modern livestock management, including ranching, veterinary services, and conflict prevention between farmers and herders. “Taraba must feed itself while contributing responsibly to the national food supply”, he said.
The Governor also emphasised equitable land administration as a key tool for boosting productivity and reducing disputes, alongside responsible mining practices.
While respecting the Federal Government’s authority over solid minerals, he warned that illegal mining, environmental degradation, and funding of insecurity through mineral resources would not be tolerated. He stated that Taraba will continue to collaborate with federal agencies to ensure lawful, environmentally responsible, and community-benefiting mining activities.
Infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and energy provision were highlighted as critical to inclusive growth.
Governor Kefas announced initiatives to extend government services to rural and hard-to-reach communities, enhance local participation in decision-making, and support economic opportunities at the grassroots level.
On security, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, criminality, and extremism, assuring citizens that all parts of the state will remain under effective governance.
Kefas also pledged to revive cultural and sports activities as tools for youth engagement, unity, and social cohesion, noting that Taraba’s diversity is a strength to be harnessed for progress.
“2026 will be a year of peace, progress, and prosperity with inclusion”, he said, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths, farmers, pastoralists, professionals, and political leaders to collaborate for the collective success of the state.
The Governor concluded by reaffirming his commitment to justice, security, and leaving no community behind.
