December 11, (THEWILL) – Ten suspects on the watchlist of the International Criminal Police organisation, commonly known as Interpol, have been arrested while attempting to enter Nigeria.
“In the last couple of days, there were 10 people who were on the INTERPOL and immigration wanted list who were apprehended in one week. These individuals were apprehended while attempting to enter Nigeria within just one week, thanks to the efforts of security operatives and the newly installed Nigeria Immigration Service Technology Innovation Complex,” Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed Tuesday in Abuja when President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Nigeria Immigration Service Technology Innovation Complex.
The minister revealed that the new facility will enable the government to ascertain the risk level of persons entering the country, detect irregular migration patterns, and monitor unmanned borders.
The complex is also equipped with a 0.5KW solar power plant, which is expected to save the country over N300 million annually.
Tinubu commended the NIS for its efforts, stating that the new technology will help Nigeria harness technology to drive development.
