August 20, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to driving Africa’s development agenda as he joined world leaders at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan.
In a post on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, Tinubu said the summit, which opened this week, focuses on strengthening Africa–Japan relations, attracting sustainable investments, and fostering innovation for the continent’s growth.
“Arrived in Tokyo yesterday for the 9th TICAD Summit.
“This summit is about strengthening Africa–Japan ties, attracting sustainable investments, and unlocking innovation to benefit our people.
“Nigeria is at the table, not as a bystander, but as a leader shaping solutions for Africa’s future,” he wrote.
Established in 1993 by Japan, TICAD brings together African countries, Japan, international organisations, and development partners to design strategies for sustainable growth and cooperation.
The Yokohama summit has placed Africa’s role in global economic recovery at the forefront, with emphasis on innovation, infrastructure development, and stronger trade partnerships.
Tinubu’s participation highlights Nigeria’s bid to consolidate its leadership in Africa’s economic diplomacy while pursuing new opportunities for investment and innovation under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The three-day summit, holding from August 20 to 22, is expected to produce commitments on harnessing digital technologies to transform Africa’s future, expand infrastructure, and accelerate regional integration through enhanced trade and development partnerships.
