July 16, (THEWILL) — Short video platform, TikTok, has removed over 3.6 million videos in Nigeria between January and March 2025 for violating its Community Guidelines, making a 50% rise from the previous quarter.

In its Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, released on Tuesday, the platform said 98.4% of the videos were proactively detected, with 92.1% removed within 24 hours. It also banned over 42,000 LIVE rooms and disrupted 48,000 streams for similar violations.

While TikTok LIVE enables creators and viewers to connect, create, and build communities in real time, the platform has intensified its LIVE Monetisation Guidelines, making it more transparent how some content is not eligible for monetisation.

Globally, more than 211 million videos were removed in Q1 2025, up from 153 million in the previous quarter, with over 184 million removed through automation. The platform’s global proactive detection rate reached 99 percent, demonstrating continued improvements in identifying and removing harmful content quickly and effectively.

In West Africa, TikTok also removed 129 covert accounts in March 2025, as part of its broader strategy to tackle coordinated harmful behaviour on the platform.

Between January and March 2025, TikTok also deleted 44.7 million spam comments from fake accounts and removed 4.3 billion fake likes. These inauthentic engagements were traced to automated systems or bots designed to manipulate platform activity.

“We remain vigilant in our efforts to detect external threats and safeguard the platform from fake accounts and engagement. We are steadfast in our commitment to promptly identify and remove any accounts, content, or activities that seek to artificially boost popularity”, it emphasised.

Meanwhile, TikTok has announced a new in-app helpline in Nigeria and appointed Dr Olawale Ogunlana as its Digital Well-being Ambassador.
