
August 12, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Obih’s appointment follows the death of a serving council member.
The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Akinfeleye, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television. He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, and replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who is now Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
In a related development, Tinubu appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
Also appointed were Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.
Yakasai, a retired Army Colonel and Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He also sits on the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
The medical professor earned his MBBS at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later obtained a scholarship from the European Economic Commission for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, earning membership and fellowship at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He holds a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, as well as fellowships from the International College of Surgeons (USA) and the American College of Surgeons.
Yakasai also served as Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
