Tinubu Arrives Abu Dhabi For 2026 Sustainability Week After 14-Day Engagement In Europe

January 12, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), ahead of his participation in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a major global forum on sustainable development, climate action and economic growth.

The President arrived on Sunday night, with his aircraft touching down at the Presidential Wing of the Zayed International Airport at exactly 11:30 pm local time.

A press statement by the State House stated that the Nigerian leader was warmly received upon arrival by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; as well as officials of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.

Several members of the President’s delegation, including the Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, also welcomed President Tinubu on arrival at his hotel.

The statement confirmed that the President’s visit to Abu Dhabi came after two weeks of engagements in Europe, where he held discussions with Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, and French President, Emmanuel Macron, as part of Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic outreach.

President Tinubu had departed Lagos for Europe on December 28, 2025, ahead of the ADSW in the United Arab Emirates.

The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go”, brings together world leaders, policymakers, investors and experts to advance dialogue and action on sustainable development, energy transition, climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.

Nigeria’s participation at ADSW underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to positioning the country as a key player in global conversations on sustainability, while also strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with strategic partners such as the United Arab Emirates.
