June 25, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated his Chief of Staff, Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila, and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on their birthdays.
Gbajabiamila, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023, turned 61, while Governor Sanwo-Olu marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, June 25.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Gbajabiamila for his “salutary contributions” to Nigeria’s democracy and his enduring role in the legislature, where he served for two decades.
Gbajabiamila was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 to represent Surulere Constituency in Lagos State.
He went on to serve six consecutive terms and held key leadership roles as Minority Leader and later Majority Leader before emerging as Speaker.
Highlighting his Chief of Staff’s commitment to the development of Lagos, especially his home constituency, Tinubu urged Gbajabiamila to remain steadfast in supporting the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at delivering a more prosperous and economically vibrant Nigeria.
The President wished him good health and many more years of service to the nation.
Also extending birthday wishes to Governor Sanwo-Olu, President Tinubu lauded his alignment with the long-term Lagos master plan initiated during his own tenure as governor between 1999 and 2007, describing him as “a steady hand steering Lagos on a forward path.”
Sanwo-Olu, a political protégé of Tinubu, is the sixth democratically elected governor of Lagos. Prior to assuming office in 2019, he held several top positions in public service, including Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation and commissioner in key ministries such as Economic Planning and Budget; Commerce and Industry; and Establishments, Training and Pensions.
Commending the governor’s delivery of key infrastructure, Tinubu said, “Your execution of this vision is demonstrated by key accomplishments such as the completion of the Blue and Red Rail lines and the active preparations for the Purple Line, which is set to serve the vital Lekki corridor.”
He urged Sanwo-Olu to prioritise the completion of legacy projects like the long-anticipated Fourth Mainland Bridge and the Freedom Way-Victoria Garden City (VGC) Road.
“I also wish you continued good health, longevity, and many more years of invaluable service to Lagos State and Nigeria,” the President said.
