January 08, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to deepen their investments in the local economy following the Nigerian Exchange’s (NGX) historic attainment of N100 trillion market capitalisation, describing the milestone as a clear indicator of growing investor confidence and economic recovery.

The President, in a press statement issued on Thursday by the State House, applauded corporate Nigeria, market operators and investors for driving the capital market to the unprecedented level, noting that the achievement reflects the positive outcomes of ongoing economic reforms.

Tinubu said the record-breaking performance of the NGX should inspire greater participation by Nigerians in the money and capital markets, assuring investors that 2026 would yield even stronger returns as reforms continue to deliver improved outcomes.

“With the Nigerian Exchange crossing the historic N100 trillion market capitalisation mark, the country is witnessing the birth of a new economic reality and rejuvenation”, the President said.

He noted that while many global markets struggled with stagnation or weak recovery in 2025, Nigeria’s stock market recorded stellar performance. According to him, the NGX All-Share Index closed 2025 with a return of 51.19 percent, surpassing the 37.65 percent recorded in 2024 and outperforming major global indices such as the S&P 500 and FTSE 100, as well as several emerging-market peers within the BRICS+ group.

The President stressed that Nigeria is no longer a frontier market to be ignored, but a compelling destination for value-driven investments, adding that the stock market’s performance mirrors broader improvements in the economy.

Tinubu also highlighted strong performances across key sectors, including industrial companies that have localised their supply chains and a banking sector that has demonstrated resilience and technological innovation.

Looking ahead, he said the pipeline of new listings on the NGX remains robust, with indigenous energy firms, technology companies, telecoms operators and infrastructure-focused entities seeking to access the capital market to fund expansion. He noted that such listings would further boost market capitalisation and deepen democratic ownership of the Nigerian economy.

“As your leader, I pledge to continue working unrelentingly to build an egalitarian, transparent and high-growth economy,” Tinubu said, adding that the N100 trillion milestone sends a strong signal to the world that Nigeria’s economy is robust and productive.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining reforms aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability, expanding infrastructure and improving living standards for Nigerians.
