December 21, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for what he described as outstanding, people-focused projects that are transforming the lives of residents across the state.
The President gave the commendation in Maiduguri during his official visit to Borno State, as part of a three-state tour covering Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States.
President Tinubu arrived in Maiduguri at about 12:30pm and proceeded to commission several landmark projects executed by the Zulum administration in collaboration with the Federal Government. These included the international wing of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport, a new VIP terminal extension, electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, as well as three model schools comprising primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels.
Speaking at the commissioning of the schools, the President praised the governor’s sustained investments in education, health and transportation, noting that such initiatives were critical to rebuilding communities and improving livelihoods in the state.
“I am commissioning this primary, junior secondary school and senior secondary schools to the glory of God, and for the continuous education of our children”, he said.
President Tinubu described education as a cornerstone for long-term development and commended the Borno State Government for prioritising human capital development despite the challenges the state has faced over the years.
During the visit, President Tinubu also attended the marriage ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem.
In line with Kanuri cultural and marriage rites, the President stood in as the father of the groom, while Governor Zulum acted as the father of the bride, receiving the traditional bride price presented in gold coins. The wedding ceremony was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
The events in Maiduguri attracted high-profile dignitaries, including the governors of Katsina, Taraba, Yobe, Delta, Gombe, Adamawa and Ogun states, as well as several senators, ministers and other top government officials.
President Tinubu departed Maiduguri for Bauchi State at about 3:25pm to continue his official tour.
