December 05, (THEWILL) — The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to national integration and economic expansion through the ongoing Lagos–Badagry Superhighway project.
Goronyo stated this during an inspection of the Kebbi section of the project, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a detribalised and strategic approach to infrastructure development across Nigeria.
According to him, the Lagos–Badagry Superhighway is a transformative initiative capable of unlocking vast economic opportunities while connecting major regions of the country.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of work, the Minister disclosed that the construction firm, Hightech, had completed nearly four kilometres of reinforced concrete pavement.
He added that about 64 kilometres of the corridor had been cleared, with earth-filling concluded on 15 kilometres.
“You can see that Hightech has completed almost four kilometres of reinforced concrete. They have also cleared nearly 64 kilometres and finished the filling of 15 kilometres,” he said.
He noted that solar-powered streetlights had already been installed along completed portions of the highway.
Goronyo stressed that the scope and durability of the project reflect President Tinubu’s determination to deliver world-class infrastructure that will serve Nigeria for decades.
“Mr President is not just constructing roads; he is building highways that will last 50 years or more. A road stretching from Illela, near the Niger Republic border, all the way to Lagos will enhance regional trade and create massive economic opportunities,” he said.
The minister stated that the superhighway would generate thousands of jobs both during and after construction, stimulate commerce, and help reduce insecurity in communities along the corridor.
Goronyo also cautioned citizens against political misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections, reminding them that although the project was first conceived during the Shehu Shagari administration, it did not take off until President Tinubu revived it.
“You don’t need a rocket scientist to know that this road requires huge funding. This shows the President’s love, concern, and commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
He added that President Tinubu had begun strongly and urged Nigerians to support his efforts to steer the country toward greater economic prospects.
