March 25, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on being named the recipient of the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Jonathan for his unwavering commitment to peace and democracy, describing the award as a recognition of his contributions to conflict resolution and governance in Africa.
The President noted that the Sunhak Peace Award affirms Jonathan’s efforts in “peacebuilding and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.”
He recalled Jonathan’s historic acceptance of the 2015 presidential election results and his peaceful handover of power to an opposition party, a move that strengthened Nigeria’s democratic credentials.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for recognising individuals making significant contributions to global peace and development.
Established in 2015, the Sunhak Peace Prize is awarded biennially to individuals and organizations advancing peace through sustainable human development, conflict resolution, and environmental conservation.
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2010 to 2015, will receive the 2025 Founders’ Sunhak Peace Award in Seoul, South Korea, in recognition of his peacebuilding efforts across Africa.
