September 03, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate review of security operations in Katsina State, with plans to deploy advanced military hardware, drones, and strengthened local security outfits to combat banditry.
Receiving a delegation of Katsina leaders led by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, the President said the federal government was considering the creation of state police and reinforcing the newly deployed forest guards to provide community-based security.
Tinubu decried the politicisation of the state police debate, insisting that security challenges in different regions require tailored responses that reflect local culture and terrain.
“The security challenges we face are surmountable. Yes, we have porous borders and inherited weaknesses, but we must fix them. I have directed all security agencies to intensify their strategies.
“We have approved additional drones and I expect daily feedback on operations in Katsina,” he said.
The President added that his administration was reviewing all aspects of national security with a determination to protect children, livelihoods, places of worship, and public spaces from criminal attacks.
On former President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu pledged to immortalise him, describing him as a leader who left “a legacy of success and not a defeated country.”
Governor Radda thanked the President for federal appointments for Katsina indigenes and ongoing infrastructure projects, while appealing for more support in security, youth empowerment, and development.
Former Governor Aminu Bello Masari also expressed appreciation for what he described as a “true state funeral” for Buhari, assuring Tinubu of Katsina’s continued loyalty.
The Waziri of Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, commended the President’s commitment to completing the Kano-Maradi Rail project, while calling for an upgrade of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport and more security focus in Southern Katsina.
