April 01, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu postponed his scheduled visit to Iperu, Ogun State, where he was expected to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport, and will instead travel to Jos, Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people following recent gun attacks that claimed the lives of innocent citizens.
According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President, who was initially billed to visit Ogun State on Wednesday, will now commence a four-state working tour beginning with Plateau State.
The Presidency said the adjustment reflects the administration’s concern over the security situation in Plateau, where the recent attacks have triggered heightened tension, a state-wide security review, and a curfew in parts of Jos.
After the Plateau visit, President Tinubu will proceed to Lagos State, where he is expected to observe the Good Friday holiday and continue his Easter period engagements.
On Saturday, April 4, the President will return to Ogun State for the commissioning of the Gateway International Cargo Airport and the inauguration of two commercial aircraft dedicated to cargo operations. The facility is expected to strengthen export and import activities, enhance logistics efficiency, and boost economic growth in the state.
During the Ogun engagement, Tinubu will also inaugurate the newly completed edifice of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, alongside its operational vehicles, as part of ongoing reforms to modernise border operations and improve revenue generation.
In Lagos, the President will commission several infrastructure projects executed by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, including the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System (LAGIS) building, a Multi-Agency Complex named after the President, and a new school complex to strengthen educational infrastructure.
The presidential itinerary further includes a visit to Bayelsa State on April 10, where he is expected to commission completed projects under Governor Douye Diri’s administration before returning to Abuja.
The Presidency described the revised schedule as a demonstration of President Tinubu’s “deep concern for the security situation in Plateau State and his commitment to solidarity with affected communities across the country”, while maintaining focus on ongoing infrastructure-driven economic development across the federation.
