June 29 (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu on Monday reconvened the Federal Executive Council (FEC) after a break of more than two months, presiding over a meeting at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, where he swore in two newly appointed Federal Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The commissioners, Amina Gamawa, representing Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Mukhtar, representing Kaduna State, took the oath of office shortly before the commencement of the council meeting.
The brief inauguration ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, cabinet ministers, and other senior government officials.
Speaking before the commencement of the FEC meeting, Akume disclosed that the agenda also included the swearing-in of newly appointed Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC), as part of efforts to strengthen key federal institutions.
Monday’s session marked the first meeting of the Federal Executive Council in over two months and is expected to consider several policy memoranda submitted by ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), alongside approvals for projects and programmes across critical sectors of the economy.
The RMAFC is one of Nigeria’s key constitutional bodies, responsible for monitoring the accrual and disbursement of revenues into and from the Federation Account, reviewing the country’s revenue allocation formula, and advising the federal, state, and local governments on fiscal matters.
Similarly, the National Population Commission plays a strategic role in population data management, civil registration, demographic planning, and preparations for national census exercises.
