February 09, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, declared open the Second Edition of the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference, unveiling key pillars of the Renewed Hope National Development Plan (2026-2030) aimed at accelerating inclusive growth, social investment and sustainable development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the conference held at the State House, Abuja, the President said his administration has expanded social investment and human capital programmes to target vulnerable households, youths, women and small businesses as part of efforts to ensure that economic reforms translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
Tinubu highlighted the Renewed Hope Ward Development Project as a major demonstration of his government’s commitment to grassroots inclusion through a bottom-up approach to national development. According to him, the initiative reflects strong collaboration among federal and state governments, development partners and the private sector.
“The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030 marks the next phase of our national journey. It is evidence-based, realistic, and anchored on inclusive, balanced and environmentally sustainable growth”, the President said.
He explained that the plan prioritises economic diversification and productivity, human capital development, subnational competitiveness based on comparative advantage, private sector-led growth and climate resilience.
The President stressed that effective implementation at the state and local government levels would be critical to the plan’s success, positioning the NEC as a central platform for aligning national priorities with subnational realities.
He said the conference reinforced collaboration, shared accountability and a focus on practical solutions with measurable outcomes, urging participants to move decisively from declarations to implementation through data-driven decision-making, peer learning among states and innovative financing models.
“Nigeria’s diversity is our strength. When every state grows, Nigeria grows. When growth reaches the poorest households, national stability is strengthened,” Tinubu noted, adding that sustainable development would secure hope for future generations.
Describing the task ahead as demanding but historic, the President said the Renewed Hope Agenda represents a national compact and a promise that the sacrifices of Nigerians will result in a stronger, fairer and more prosperous nation.
He expressed confidence that the resolutions of the NEC Conference would accelerate inclusive growth and sustainable national development before officially declaring the Second Edition of the National Economic Council Conference open.
The event brought together governors, ministers, and key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies to drive federal–state collaboration and ensure that the country’s development goals are achieved efficiently and equitably.
