March 23, (THEWILL) — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he has struck a deal with French President, Emmanuel Macron, to secure military support for Nigeria as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
Speaking in Lagos after a meeting with state governors, Tinubu said the discussions with the French leader centred on the provision of military equipment and specialised training for Nigerian security forces.
He explained that the agreement underscores his administration’s resolve to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture through strategic international partnerships, noting that insecurity remains a major obstacle to national development and economic growth.
The president stressed that Nigeria is exploring all available avenues, including existing diplomatic ties and credit lines, to acquire the necessary military assets to confront terrorism and other security threats.
Tinubu also warned of the potential economic implications of the ongoing Middle East crisis, saying escalating global tensions could increase fuel and transportation costs, thereby worsening inflation and reducing the purchasing power of Nigerians.
Reaffirming his commitment, the president said defeating terrorism remains a top priority for his administration, assuring that increased investment in technology, logistics, and international collaboration would be deployed to restore peace and stability nationwide.
