Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains one of the few governors still in the opposition following a wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He is widely believed to be positioning himself for the PDP’s presidential ticket in 2027.

Mutfwang, on the other hand, recently defected from the PDP to the APC, joining a growing list of opposition figures who have crossed over to the ruling party.

Thursday’s engagement marked his first known meeting with President Tinubu since his defection.
