July 17, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu will preside over a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in honour of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The special meeting will serve as a solemn platform for cabinet members, top government officials, and close associates, to reflect on and pay tribute to the life, service, and legacy of the late Nigerian leader, who passed away on July 13, 2025, in London.
Scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu is expected to lead the session with a formal eulogy, highlighting Buhari’s decades-long contribution to Nigeria as a military officer, Head of State, and two-term democratically elected President.
Other serving ministers, aides, and key members of the Tinubu administration are also expected to deliver short tributes during the ceremony, sharing personal anecdotes and official reflections on Buhari’s leadership’s impact on national development and democratic stability.
The special session is part of a broader slate of national mourning activities organised by the Federal Government to honour the departed former leader.
The late President Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as civilian President from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, following Islamic funeral rites.
