April 02, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
Bugaje, who was first appointed on March 14, 2021, will continue to steer the agency following what the Presidency described as a successful first tenure marked by impactful reforms and strategic repositioning of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sub-sector.
According to presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the decision to reappoint Bugaje was based on a thorough review of his performance, leadership record, and measurable achievements in advancing the nation’s skills development framework.
Onanuga highlighted that under Bugaje’s leadership, the NBTE has recorded significant milestones aligned with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education.
These include the strategic strengthening of Nigeria’s TVET ecosystem, a comprehensive modernisation of curricula, and the development and review of 100 national curricula to meet evolving global skills demands.
He noted that these reforms are positioning Nigeria to better equip its workforce with relevant technical competencies, enhance employability, and drive industrial growth in a rapidly changing global economy.
The President, while congratulating Bugaje on his reappointment, urged him to consolidate on the gains of his first tenure and ensure the successful completion of ongoing initiatives.
Tinubu emphasised the critical role of technical education in national development, job creation, and economic diversification.
The reappointment is widely seen as a vote of confidence in Bugaje’s leadership and a signal of continuity in the government’s efforts to transform the TVET landscape into a more dynamic, industry-driven, and globally competitive system.
