June 02, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja following the Eid-el-Kabir holiday spent in Lagos, where he participated in a series of political, governmental, and national engagements that underscored ongoing administrative activities and preparations within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, informed that the President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at approximately 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday.
He was received by senior government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu; and other top officials.
During his stay in Lagos for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, Tinubu received several dignitaries and political groups as part of the traditional Sallah homage visits observed during festive periods.
Among those who paid homage to the President were Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the leadership of the Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Also among visiting delegations were members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Kwara State Governor and Forum Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Political consultations also featured prominently during the President’s holiday engagements. Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Oyo State, including the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, as well as APC candidates seeking elective offices in Lagos State, met with the President.
In addition to political meetings, Tinubu undertook official engagements tied to national development and security.
On Monday, the President attended the International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic City Waterfront as part of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
During the ceremony, he commissioned three naval vessels — NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara — in a move viewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen maritime security and enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Navy.
The President also held discussions with the President of the Republic of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, during a meeting that focused on reinforcing bilateral relations between both neighbouring countries.
Discussions reportedly centred on areas of mutual interest, including regional cooperation, trade relations and economic partnerships.
Prior to the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, Tinubu had remained actively involved in internal party activities, participating in APC primary elections conducted in Lagos.
According to information released by the Presidency, the President participated in the process involving the selection of candidates for various offices, including state legislative positions, governorship seats, National Assembly offices and the party’s presidential ticket.
The statement further indicated that Tinubu voted during his own primary election and subsequently emerged as the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 election following what it described as a nationwide endorsement by nearly 11 million party members.
The President’s return to Abuja signals a resumption of regular official engagements and policy activities at the seat of government after the festive break.
