February 17, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared that his administration’s economic reforms are empowering states to execute impactful development projects, as he praised Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri for what he described as people-focused and results-driven governance.
The President spoke in Yola during a one-day official visit to Adamawa State, where he expressed satisfaction that ongoing macroeconomic reforms were steadily yielding positive outcomes across the country, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Tinubu said improved fiscal discipline and sound economic policies had enhanced revenue flows and allocations to states, enabling subnational governments to deliver projects that directly impact citizens’ livelihoods.
“That is the consequence of us working together, and we will achieve more macroeconomic successes. We are investing heavily in agriculture and human capital development. We must be able to feed ourselves and feed the country,” he said.
The President described the level of cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments as encouraging, urging governors to continue carrying the people along in the implementation of policies and projects.
Commending Governor Fintiri, Tinubu said the Adamawa administration had demonstrated prudent utilisation of public funds through sustained investments in roads, education, and justice infrastructure.
“You’re reflecting the true commitment of a government of the people, by the people and for the people. I have seen tremendous renewal and commitment in your investments in the education of our children, and I commend your vision and dedication to the development of Adamawa State,” he said.
The President highlighted key projects commissioned during the visit, including an eight-lane road with an underpass designed to ease traffic congestion and stimulate commercial activity, as well as a modern High Court complex, which he said would strengthen the administration of justice in the state.
Tinubu urged state governments to channel more resources toward poverty reduction, stressing that improving the quality of education remained central to achieving sustainable national development.
He also thanked traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads for promoting peace and unity in the state, noting that social harmony was critical for navigating economic reforms and political change.
The President further praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for what he described as strong and courageous leadership in the fight against insecurity.
“With you, we will defeat bandits and terrorists. You are honest, bold, courageous and committed to the job,” Tinubu said.
In his remarks, Governor Fintiri thanked the President for honouring the invitation to visit the state and commission key projects, describing the visit as historic.
He listed projects inaugurated by the President to include a model school—one of 21 built across the state’s local government areas at a cost of N24.8 billion; the expanded Galadima Aminu Road with overhead bridge, underpass, and dualised Gimba Road costing N15.6 billion; the remodelled High Court Complex valued at N5.5 billion; and a newly constructed Government House office complex costing N6.3 billion.
Fintiri commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms and assured him of the continued support of the Adamawa people.
Five governors attended the event, including Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State. Ministers and other senior government officials were also present.
