Tinubu Seeks NASS Confirmation Of Amupitan As INEC Chairman

October 14, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking the confirmation of Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was contained in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Tinubu stated that the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandate Senate confirmation for appointments to the electoral body.

The Senate President has referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for screening and further legislative consideration.
