November 28, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a strategic body mandated to coordinate and drive the implementation of the Federal Government’s newly enacted tax laws in line with the administration’s economic reform agenda.
A statement signed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that seasoned financial expert, Joseph Tegbe, will chair the Committee, while the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will provide oversight.
The President said the creation of the NTPIC underscores his administration’s commitment to building “a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses.”
The Committee is expected to conduct extensive nationwide consultations with stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including professional bodies, subnational governments, and civil society groups. The engagements, the statement noted, are designed to ensure broad participation and understanding of the new tax regime.
Its mandate also prioritises strong inter-agency collaboration by aligning the work of key revenue-generating and regulatory institutions, harmonising existing processes with new statutes, and ensuring unified oversight and reporting across all tiers of government.
Chairman Joseph Tegbe is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), with more than 35 years of experience in public and private sector advisory, including his tenure as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.
Mrs Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as the Committee’s Secretary. Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and a broad selection of experts from tax administration, finance, law, civil society, and the private sector.
Tegbe assured that the NTPIC will work diligently to support national development objectives and ensure seamless implementation of the new tax laws.
“We understand the strategic importance of these Tax Acts. Our committee will work closely with all stakeholders to support the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in ensuring seamless implementation and building public trust in the tax system”, he said.
Wale Edun described the Committee’s inauguration as a significant step in the government’s broader fiscal reforms.
“With the establishment of this Committee, Mr President has not only set the direction but also provided the authority and support required to reset not just the tax system but the entire fiscal policy framework of government, to deliver significant economic growth for the benefit of all Nigerians”, he stated.
The Committee, which will begin work immediately, is expected to enhance revenue mobilisation, minimise leakages, strengthen accountability, and support the government’s fiscal sustainability efforts as part of a long-term national development strategy.
