December 04, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu on Thursday swore in the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, charging him to deploy his extensive operational and strategic experience to further strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, came two days after Musa’s nomination and subsequent confirmation by the Senate.
President Tinubu described Musa’s appointment as a strategic decision aimed at consolidating recent security gains and improving coordination across the Armed Forces.
He urged the new minister to prioritise synergy among the military services, accelerate defence reforms, ensure transparency in procurement, and deepen inter-agency cooperation.
The President also emphasised improved welfare for military personnel and sustained momentum in joint operations nationwide.
After taking the oath of office, Musa pledged unwavering commitment to the President’s vision for a safer and more stable Nigeria.
He vowed to work tirelessly to modernise defence capabilities, strengthen regional and international security partnerships, and enhance operational efficiency within the Armed Forces.
“We will not relent. We will sustain the pressure on the enemies of the state and ensure that peace returns to every community,” he said.
He promised to prioritise troop morale, intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with local communities to improve security outcomes across the country.
