May 23 (THEWILL) — The incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election in Akwa Ibom State after polling 389,197 votes in the exercise conducted across the state’s 329 wards.
His only challenger, Mr Stanley Osifo, scored zero votes in the primary election.
Results from the 31 local government areas began arriving at the state collation centre at about 1 p.m. on Saturday, where the APC State Collation Officer and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, officially announced the outcome as submitted by the various local government returning officers.
Speaking during the collation process, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, described the direct primary system as beneficial to democratic participation, assuring that the National Assembly would continue to enact laws to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
The collated results were subsequently presented to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for documentation and necessary electoral procedures.
