September 25, (THEWILL) — The final journey for the former Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and retired Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, began on Wednesday, with a day of tributes held at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
Arase, who passed away earlier this month, is being honoured with a series of activities in Abuja and Edo State.
A requiem mass will be held tomorrow, Friday, September 26, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, followed by a lying in state at his Maitama residence on Saturday. His remains will then be airlifted to Benin, Edo State, for the continuation of burial rites.
In a major tribute, the PSC has named its Chairman’s Hall on the sixth floor of its corporate headquarters in Jabi after the late police chief.
The hall will now be known as Solomon Arase Hall. More than 500 mourners have signed the condolence register at the PSC headquarters since his passing.
The Commission has also announced it will send a strong delegation to Edo State for the final burial rites of its former chairman.
Speaking at the day of tributes in Abuja, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Aminu Malumfashi, described Arase as “not only a police officer of repute, a scholar and a reformer, but also a gentleman of rare courage and intellect.”
Arase’s remains will be interred on Friday, October 3, at his Benin residence, marking the conclusion of a distinguished life of service.
