April 20, (THEWILL) — Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded a significant operational breakthrough with the interception of suspected terrorist logistics couriers and the recovery of a large cache of ammunition in Kogi State, in a sustained crackdown aimed at disrupting terror supply chains across the region.
A statement signed on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the operations formed part of intensified intelligence-driven efforts over the past three months to dismantle terrorist logistics networks within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.
According to the statement, the operations recorded multiple breakthroughs beginning with a major interception on 29 March 2026 along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area, where troops stopped a suspected courier riding a motorcycle.
A search of the motorcycle led to the discovery of a specially modified concealed compartment allegedly used for hiding and transporting ammunition and other illicit materials.
Preliminary findings indicated possible links between the suspect and known terrorist elements, prompting follow-up intelligence operations aimed at dismantling associated logistics channels.
In a related development, troops also arrested a high-profile suspected ammunition courier, identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as “Nasara,” who had been on security watch lists over alleged involvement in terrorist supply operations.
The most recent operation was carried out on 20 April 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorist logistics operatives along major routes in the state.
Acting on the information, troops deployed at the Response Area Oshokoshoko mounted a snap checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba Road in Lokoja Local Government Area.
During the operation, a Toyota bus travelling from Makurdi en route to Obajana was intercepted and thoroughly searched. Two suspects, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, alongside three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.
Other items recovered from the suspects included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number (NIN) slip, and an identity card.
Security sources said the ammunition was suspected to be part of efforts to re-establish disrupted supply lines supporting terrorist operations within the region.
The arrested suspects and recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.
Military authorities described the operations as part of sustained efforts to degrade terrorist logistics capabilities, disrupt supply routes, and deny criminal elements freedom of movement across Kogi State and adjoining corridors.
They added that the successes reflect improved intelligence coordination, heightened surveillance, and proactive troop deployment along strategic transit routes frequently used by criminal networks.
