December 05, (THEWILL) — Nigerian Army troops of Operation Peace Shield have rescued 10 kidnapped women during a swift and well-coordinated operation in the early hours of Friday in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A credible source at the Army Headquarters, who confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said the victims were abducted from their farms in Unguwan Nungu on November 29. Their abduction triggered a sustained search-and-rescue mission by Sector 5 troops.
According to the source, the breakthrough occurred at about 6:40 a.m. on Friday when the troops intercepted the kidnappers as they attempted to collect ransom money from the victims’ relatives.
The soldiers reportedly engaged the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the captives and escape.
During the operation, troops recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 9mm ammunition, and N1.6 million, believed to be part of the ransom the kidnappers intended to collect.
The rescued women have been debriefed and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
The source added that the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to restoring peace and security across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.
