July 21, (THEWILL) — Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria’s North-West, rescuing kidnapped victims, foiling an attempted abduction, and dismantling a suspected terrorist logistics network in coordinated operations carried out in Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states.
The latest operations, conducted on July 19 and 20, underscore the military’s sustained offensive against armed groups responsible for kidnappings, banditry, and other violent crimes across the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the military said troops responded promptly to multiple security incidents, recording significant operational gains.
Swift Response Foils Zamfara Kidnap Attempt
According to the statement, troops on July 20 swiftly responded to a distress call from residents of Shiyan Abiyola in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where terrorists had invaded a residential area in an attempt to abduct civilians.
The military said the rapid deployment of troops disrupted the attack, forcing the terrorists to abandon their operation and flee the community.
Several residents targeted by the attackers were rescued, while troops immediately launched clearance and dominance patrols across the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or staging another assault.
The command noted that no further security breaches were recorded following the intervention.
Three Kidnap Victims Escape Terrorist Hideout
In another operation on July 19, troops on routine patrol in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State rescued three kidnapped victims who escaped from a terrorist hideout.
According to the military, the victims seized the opportunity presented by a heavy downpour to flee while their captors were asleep.
Investigations revealed that the victims had been abducted on July 14, 2026, while working on their farms in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State before being moved to the terrorists’ camp.
Following their rescue, the victims were handed over to the appropriate authorities for medical attention, documentation, and eventual reunification with their families.
The military described the development as another indication that sustained pressure on terrorist enclaves is weakening criminal groups operating across the North-West.
10 Motorcycles Recovered, Four Suspects Arrested
Also on July 19, troops conducting a routine stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State intercepted a vehicle transporting 10 motorcycles suspected to be destined for terrorist elements.
The statement said preliminary investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects, believed to have been sent to receive the motorcycles on behalf of a known terrorist collaborator.
Military authorities said the suspects and the recovered motorcycles remain in custody as investigations continue to unravel the network behind the suspected logistics supply chain.
Security agencies have consistently identified motorcycles as one of the primary means of transportation used by terrorists to launch attacks, transport weapons, and move abducted victims across difficult terrain, making the disruption of such supply routes a critical component of ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
Commending the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response, the Theatre Command said the latest successes reflected the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and operational capability.
