April 13, (THEWILL) — A social media post by Donald Trump depicting him in a Christ-like scene has been deleted following widespread backlash, with the U.S. President firmly denying that the image carried any religious or messianic meaning.
The image, which was posted Sunday night, showed Trump dressed in a robe, placing his hand on the forehead of a bedridden man in a pose that many observers likened to traditional depictions of divine healing. A glowing light surrounded the man’s head, while Trump appeared to hold a radiant orb in his other hand. The backdrop featured prominent national symbols, including the American flag and the Statue of Liberty.
Shortly after it was shared, the image went viral and drew sharp reactions across social media platforms, with critics, including some supporters, describing it as portraying Trump in a messianic or Christ-like role.
Although the post had been taken down, responding to reporters’ questions, Trump confirmed that he shared the image but rejected the interpretation that it had any religious undertone.
“I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross”, he said.
Dismissing the comparisons to Jesus, Trump added: “Only the fake news could come up with that one… I just heard about it, and I said, ‘How did they come up with that?’”
Reiterating his position, he stated: “It’s supposed to be me as a doctor.”
Despite his explanation, the imagery had already sparked intense debate, with analysts noting that its visual elements closely resembled widely recognised religious iconography, which likely fueled the controversy.
Trump’s reference to humanitarian work aligns with organisations such as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, suggesting the image may have been intended to evoke themes of care and assistance rather than divinity.
As of press time, the White House had not issued any official statement regarding the post or its removal.
