March 14, (THEWILL) — U.S. President, Donald Trump, has called on key global allies to deploy naval forces to help secure the strategic Strait of Hormuz, warning that Washington will ensure the vital oil shipping route remains open despite mounting threats linked to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the United States would guarantee that the crucial waterway is “open and safe,” urging countries, including China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom to send warships to patrol the corridor.
The U.S. president said several nations were expected to contribute naval assets to prevent Iran from turning the strait into a threat to global energy supply.
Trump warned that U.S. forces would intensify military action along Iran’s coastline if attacks on commercial vessels continue, saying Washington is prepared to use force to deter Iranian naval activity in the area.
The call comes amid heightened tensions following remarks by Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who vowed in his first public statement that Tehran would continue using the “lever of blocking” the waterway as part of its response to the escalating regional conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, connecting the Persian Gulf to international markets. Roughly 20 percent of global oil supply passes through the narrow corridor, with about 20 million barrels of crude transported daily in 2025.
The channel is deep enough to accommodate the world’s largest oil tankers and is relied upon by major oil and gas producers in the Middle East and their global customers.
Meanwhile, hostilities across the Middle East have intensified. The Israel Defence Forces said Iran had launched additional missiles toward Israel, triggering air-raid sirens in Jerusalem as air-defence systems moved to intercept the incoming projectiles.
The latest escalation follows a series of attacks on maritime traffic near the Strait of Hormuz, where ships linked to the United States and its allies have been threatened or targeted, further heightening fears over the safety of global energy shipments.
Earlier, Trump also claimed that U.S. forces had destroyed military targets on Iran’s key oil export hub, Kharg Island, warning that additional strikes could follow if Iran attempts to disrupt shipping in the region.
Iran, however, has warned that energy infrastructure belonging to companies cooperating with the United States could face retaliatory attacks, raising concerns about a broader regional confrontation.
