May 04, (THEWILL) — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of its caretaker chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has fixed ₦100 million as the total cost for presidential nomination forms while unveiling a comprehensive timetable for its 2027 election activities.
The breakdown shows that presidential aspirants are to pay ₦10 million for Expression of Interest and ₦90 million for nomination forms, bringing the total to ₦100 million.
The party said the cost framework forms part of broader guidelines approved to ensure a structured, transparent, and competitive nomination process.
The timetable, ratified at the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, outlines key pre-election activities beginning May 4, 2026, with the issuance of notices of elections to state chapters.
Sales of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will run from May 5 to May 13, while May 14 is the deadline for submission of completed forms.
Screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 15 to May 18, followed by screening appeals on May 21 and the publication of the final list of cleared aspirants on May 22.
Ward primaries for all elective offices will be held on May 27, with appeals slated for May 28.
The NEC is expected to meet on May 29 to approve all nominated candidates, while a special national convention for the ratification of candidates has been fixed for May 30, 2026.
Further details indicate that the process will extend into June with certification of candidates and submission of nomination forms to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside the screening of running mates and issuance of certificates of return.
Campaigns are scheduled to commence between August and September 2026, depending on the category of election, and will run through early 2027.
The party also outlined timelines for withdrawal or substitution of candidates, as well as the nomination of party agents ahead of the polls.
In addition to the presidential fee, the PDP approved ₦40 million for governorship aspirants, ₦10 million for Senate, ₦7 million for House of Representatives, and ₦2 million for State House of Assembly positions.
The party, however, introduced inclusivity measures, announcing that women aspirants will only pay for Expression of Interest forms, while youths and persons living with disabilities will enjoy a 50 per cent discount on nomination forms.
Party leaders said the timetable and cost structure are designed in compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, while promoting internal democracy, fairness, and grassroots participation.
The development follows the recent inauguration of a 13-member Interim National Working Committee led by Turaki, tasked with repositioning the party and overseeing preparations for the 2027 elections.
