September 28, (THEWILL) — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug kingpins, Victor Nwosa and Felix Chika Obiegbu, after consignments of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine were recovered from their Lagos residences.
According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, the arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit (SOU).
Nwosa, 64, was arrested on Wednesday, September 17, at his home on Femi Kila Street, Okota, where 4.33kg of heroin and 448g of cocaine were seized.
Obiegbu, 49, was picked up the next day at his residence on Shada Shonefun Street, Aguda Surulere, with 2.9kg of methamphetamine found hidden in his home.
The NDLEA said while Nwosa posed as a textile merchant and Obiegbu as a wine distributor, both were in fact leaders of drug trafficking syndicates preparing shipments for Europe.
Meanwhile, in separate operations in the North-East, NDLEA operatives foiled attempts to smuggle illicit drugs to terrorists and bandits in Borno and Yobe states.
In Borno, officers arrested 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim on September 27 at Njimtilo village, near Maiduguri, after discovering 39,380 tramadol and exol-5 pills hidden in the engine compartment of his Mercedes Benz GLK.
In Yobe, operatives intercepted 26-year-old Halima Adamu along Damaturu–Maiduguri road with 39 parcels of Colorado (a synthetic strain of cannabis) weighing 1.4kg concealed in her travel bag.
A follow-up raid led to the arrest of another suspect, Habiba Muhammad, at her residence in Maiduguri.
Other major seizures in the past week include 30,030 tramadol pills recovered from two suspects along Zaria–Kano road in Kano State; 12kg of cannabis and 50 live cartridges seized from three suspects at Swali jetty, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State; and 32kg of cannabis and tramadol recovered from ex-convict Femi Owoeye at his Ikere Ekiti home.
In Kaduna State, 262.6kg of cannabis blocks were seized at the Abuja–Kaduna tollgate, with other arrests linked to methamphetamine distribution. In Edo State, over 24,000kg of cannabis was destroyed in forest plantations across Esan West and Igueben LGAs, with processed consignments evacuated.
In Lagos and Abuja, more than 87,000 opioid pills and 2.1kg of Colorado were intercepted, while further arrests and seizures were recorded in Gombe and Katsina states.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended officers involved in the nationwide operations, stressing that the arrests and seizures reflect the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health and national security.
“Every gram of dangerous drugs we seize and remove from our streets reinforces our determination to protect our youths, disrupt criminal networks, and strengthen national security,” Marwa said.
