June 03, (THEWILL) – At least twenty terrorists have been neutralised by the Nigerian Air Force during operation to stop a huge planned attack by bandits on vulnerable communities in the south of Mai-Gaima, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A statement signed on Tuesday by Ehimen Ejodame, NAF’s spokesperson, said, “Aircraft under Operation FANSAN YAMMA was immediately dispatched on armed reconnaissance and a possible rescue mission”, following intelligence that terrorists were preparing to attack vulnerable communities.
Ejodame explained that the heavily armed terrorists riding on over 30 motorcycles, opened fire on personnel immediately they sighted the aircraft.
While the engagement led to the destruction of several motorcycles and the deaths of dozens of terrorists, Ejodame disclosed that two local vigilantes were killed by the terrorists, and two others sustained injuries during the shootout.
The NAF spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the kidnapped villagers who were taken into the adjoining forest.
