A statement by its Embassy in Abuja, advised U.S citizens to exercise heightened caution when traveling to the mission, Consulate General in Lagos, and associated schools.
Travelers were urged to vary travel times and routes, stay aware of their surroundings, and review personal security plans with family members to reduce potential risks.
The Embassy emphasized the importance of maintaining a low profile, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, keeping cell phones charged for emergencies, and familiarizing oneself with emergency exits when entering buildings.
Citizens were encouraged to stay alert in public places and avoid predictable routines. The Embassy also directed U.S. citizens to the Nigeria Country Information page for further details on threats and travel risks in the country.
