January 13, (THEWILL) — The United States has delivered a consignment of critical military supplies to Nigerian security agencies in Abuja, further solidifying the defense partnership between the two nations.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) via its official X account.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the statement read.
While AFRICOM did not specify the exact nature of the equipment, the delivery follows a high-level Nigerian delegation’s visit to Washington in November 2025, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, to negotiate enhanced intelligence and hardware support.
The logistics support comes less than three weeks after the U.S. military launched a series of “powerful and deadly” missile strikes against terrorist enclaves in the North-West.
On Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, U.S. Navy warships in the Gulf of Guinea launched Tomahawk missiles targeting Islamic State (ISIS) and “Lakurawa” jihadist groups in Jabo, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The U.S. government, under President Donald Trump, framed those strikes as a decisive move to protect vulnerable communities, particularly Christians, from existential threats.
However, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the operation as a “joint security and intelligence collaboration” aimed at broadly degrading terrorist networks.
The ministry emphasized that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy remains focused on protecting all citizens regardless of faith.
In addition to hardware, the U.S. has recently increased its intelligence-gathering flights over northern Nigeria.
This reinforced cooperation marks a significant shift in bilateral relations, following a diplomatic “lobbying” effort by Abuja to correct international misconceptions and secure technical assistance for its overstretched security forces.
