January 28, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged residents of the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his administration and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing ongoing development projects and what he described as inclusive governance across the state.
The call was made on Wednesday in Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area through the Deputy Governor, Dr Akon Eyakenyi, during a Women Sensitisation Tour on Civic Responsibilities organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Eyakenyi said the state government is currently executing over 11 projects in Urue Offong Oruko, noting that the projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to grassroots development and equitable distribution of resources.
She explained that the interventions, implemented under the ARISE Agenda, cut across infrastructure and social development needs in the local government area and the wider Oro Federal Constituency.
According to her, the number and spread of ongoing projects reflect the administration’s development strategy and form the basis for continued political support in future elections.
The deputy governor also called on women to prepare for the 2027 polls by fulfilling their civic responsibilities, particularly by ensuring they possess valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
She noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting Continuous Voter Registration for new registrants, replacement of lost cards and transfer of voter information, and urged eligible voters to take advantage of the exercise.
Speaking at the event, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki, said the sensitisation tour was aimed at mobilising women across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
She conveyed the appreciation of Governor Umo Eno to the people of Urue Offong Oruko for their support during the 2023 elections and encouraged them to increase participation in the next electoral cycle.
Obareki said the state government is addressing socio-economic challenges in the area through targeted programmes under the ARISE Agenda and urged women to participate in empowerment initiatives, revalidate their APC membership and take part in the voter registration exercise.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Silas Etukudoh, said the sensitisation programme was organised to outline the role of women as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to gather momentum.
She called on women to obtain their PVCs, ensure their registration with the APC and mobilise support for President Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno.
In his remarks, Chairman of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area, Mr Unoh Etim Unoh, commended the state government for what he described as people-oriented projects in the area, including the 2.9-kilometre Secretariat Road, a Model Primary Health Centre in Eyulor and ARISE Compassionate Homes.
