June 30, (THEWILL) — Ahead of the planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for Monday, 30th June, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have taken over the party’s secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.
THEWILL gathered that the development may be part of efforts to forestall possible breakdown of law and order.
The ongoing crisis rocking the party deepened on Sunday evening, as two principal figures, Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled national secretary and Taofeek Arapaja, the deputy national chairman (south), issued separate notices inviting party stakeholders to national caucus and NEC meetings, respectively.
Anyanwu had issued his notice earlier in the day, calling on party stakeholders to attend expanded special national caucus meeting of the party, on Monday, June 30 (today).
The notice was countered by Arapaja, who urged the party members to ignore Anyanwu’s statement, insisting that the 100th NEC meeting earlier scheduled for today must hold.
It was not immediately clear who invited the Police, but THEWILL gathered that the mobile squad took over the party secretariat located at Wuse Zone 5, as early as 5 am.
The party’s gates have been shut to prevent people from accessing the place, except for regular staff with provable means of identification.
