January 20, (THEWILL) – The United Nations Children and Education Fund has solicited robust media support to raise the quality of lives of Nigerian children and other citizens.
The UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Ms Christian Munduate, made the appeal in Gusau, Zamfara State during a working visit.
Munduate explained that the organisation is complementing Nigerian governments in the health, education, and nutrition sectors.
She urged the media to document and report the interventions constructively to better the lives of Nigerians.
”You (journalists) need to effectively monitor and ensure accountability in the implementation of our (UNICEF) programmes,” she said.
The UNICEF country representative identified low levels of awareness, poverty, and weak political will as some factors affecting the quality of life of Nigerians.
She therefore enjoined the media to raise public awareness of responsibility, accountability, political commitment, and funding to improve the quality of living standards.
Munduate was supported by the Sokoto UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Mr Michael Juma, among other officials.
