October 03, (THEWILL) — Security operatives have foiled a suspected cult clash at the University of Port Harcourt with the arrest of two suspects, including a serving police corporal.
The suspects, identified as Corporal Onwukwe Godswill of Elimgbu Division and Ifeanyi Israel, a 200-level student of Biomedical Technology, were intercepted on September 26, 2025, during final-year signing-out celebrations on campus.
Rivers Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said in a statement on Friday that UniPort’s internal security first intercepted the duo before handing them over to operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit.
A search reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, four live cartridges, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a small axe.
Further investigations at Corporal Onwukwe’s residence yielded another locally made pistol and two machetes, the police added.
The suspects and exhibits are currently in custody while investigations continue into their alleged involvement in cult activities and possible accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, vowed tougher action against cultism in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“There will be no hiding place for criminals in Rivers State. Together, we will make the state safer,” he said.
