October 02, (THEWILL) — The Rivers State Executive Council is currently left with only six eligible commissioners to assist the governor, Siminialayi Fubara, in piloting the affairs of the state.
This followed Fubara’s decision to comply with the Supreme Court judgement, which voided all appointments made during the political crisis which erupted in the state from November 2023 into the later part of 2024.
Fubara, at a valedictory session for his cabinet members on Wednesday, dropped eight of his commissioners who were screened and confirmed by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Rivers State House of Assembly.
From the list, only the following commissioners and officials screened by the Martin Amaewhule-led assembly are now eligible cabinet members of the Rivers State Government.
They are Dr Tammy Danagogo (Secretary to the State Government), Ehie Edison (Chief of Staff), Dr Adaeze Oreh (Commissioner for Health), Mr Joe Johnson (Commissioner for Information and Communication), Chisom Kenneth Gbali (Commissioner for Youth Development) and Engr. Victor Kii (Commissioner for Agriculture).
Others are Charles Amadi (Commissioner for Chieftaincy & Community Affairs) and Christopher Green (Commissioner for Sports).
Also spared are all Special Advisers and Assistants whose appointments are not subject to Assembly confirmation.
The governor, while relieving the former commissioners of their duties, appreciated them for their sacrifices to the development of the state in the last two years.
