April 02, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Government has lauded President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for their condolence visits following the killing of 16 Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Wayya, expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s delegation and Governor Okpebholo’s visit, describing it as a show of solidarity and concern over the tragic incident.
“On behalf of the good people of the state, especially the grieving families of the Uromi attack victims from Torankawa, His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf extends profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for their visits and commitment to justice,” the statement read.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his demand for justice, emphasizing the need for transparency in the legal process, including a public parade of the arrested suspects.
“We appreciate the actions taken so far, but justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. The people of Kano, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve to see those responsible for this massacre brought to justice publicly,” he stated.
The governor also commended Governor Okpebholo for engaging with the Hausa community in Edo State to prevent further tensions and for his commitment to compensating the bereaved families.
“The compensation promised by the Edo State Government is a commendable step, but it must be executed without delay to support the grieving families who have lost their breadwinners,” he added.
