May 29 (THEWILL) — United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that the United States and China will jointly participate in the recovery and destruction of Iran’s buried enriched nuclear material under a proposed agreement to ease tensions in the Middle East.
Trump disclosed the development in a statement circulated through White House-linked social media accounts on Friday, insisting that Iran must permanently abandon any ambition to acquire nuclear weapons as negotiations over maritime security and nuclear containment move toward conclusion.
“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb”, Trump stated.
The US President further claimed that enriched nuclear material buried deep underground following previous B-2 bomber strikes would be “unearthed” and destroyed under a coordinated arrangement involving the United States, China, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Trump, the underground material, which he described as “nuclear dust” — remains trapped beneath collapsed mountain structures allegedly caused by earlier American bombardments.
“The enriched material… buried deep underground… will be unearthed by the United States, along with China, in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and destroyed”, Trump declared.
International media reports indicated that Trump convened senior national security officials for a high-level White House meeting to decide whether to proceed with the proposed framework agreement negotiated between American and Iranian officials.
According to details emerging from the negotiations, the proposed arrangement could involve a 60-day memorandum of understanding focused on extending the current ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and initiating fresh talks over Iran’s nuclear programme and uranium stockpiles.
The US President outlined far-reaching conditions tied to the evolving negotiations, including the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions, the removal and destruction of sea mines allegedly planted in the waterway, and the lifting of the US naval blockade imposed during months of heightened hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important oil transit corridors, and disruptions in the area in recent months have heightened global concerns over energy security and international trade.
